The SFS is already looking ahead to the spring and our most popular event of the SFS season.
Make sure to put Sunday, April 2, 2006 on your calendars and plan to attend the annual SFS Flute Festival. Commercial exhibits, our Young Members Recital, and the Flute Choir Festival will all take place on Sunday, April 2, at Town Hall in Seattle.
Our day will include a participatory group warmup, flute choir reading sessions, flute choir performances and clinics, the Young Members Recital, and a recital and workshops with our guest artist, Dr. Christine Potter. (Please note that the Flute Festival will be held on Sunday only.)
The SFS offers 2006-2007 memberships that begin at this event and include free admission to the Flute Fair, free admission to the All-Members Recital, remaining newsletters for 2005-2006 and continuing membership through 2006-2007.
Flute Choir Festival: Flute ensembles from around the Pacific Northwest will perform and enjoy workshops with a noted flutist and work with a clinician. Anticipated events will tentatively include flute ensemble coaching; flute ensemble performances; and a flute choir sightreading session. If your flute ensemble would like to perform, contact Shelley Collins.
Enjoy a performance with some of the SFS's youngest flute students in grades 1-6. If you are a flute teacher, you'll enjoy hearing some of the best beginning flute repertoire. Please come cheer for our youngest performers!
Dr. Christine Potter will be the guest artist for this year's Flute Festival. Chris is a delightful and skillful performer, a flute choir clinician, and an alto and bass flute expert. She will lead a workshop on resources for these two important instruments in the flute family, introducing us to materials from her new publication, The Alto and Bass Flute Repertoire Book. Other publications include Technique Duets, Patriotic Songs for Two Flutes, Scale Rounds, Halloween Duets, Flute Duets for Animal Lovers, Technique Standards Levels A, B and C, Irish Duets, Seven Steps to Better Intonation, and Duets from the Nutcracker. She will be performing works by Mike Mower and Ian Clarke.
Kristine Anderson Collaborative pianist

*Celebration IV (Afro-Cuban) - Bill Douglas *Baikal Journey (Ancient Friend) - Catherine McMichael
The Great Train Race - Ian Clarke *Obstinato and Scareso - Mike Mower
Commercial Exhibiters are always a very important part of the flute festival. There will be many opportunities to shop for new and used instruments, flute "accessories," and more. Thanks to our SFS Commercial Members who attend our festival year after year. Whether they travel from across the country or across town, they all spend a lot of time and money to be sure that our members get to test out some of the best flutes around. Please make sure to visit their exhibits!
